Rotary CALPlex - Overview

The Rotary CALPlex is a small, compact version of our standard CALPlex datalogger that has been designed for installation directly on the back of a rotary retort, attached to the packing gland, INSTEAD OF the traditional thermocouple slipring. Our new “Rotary CALPlex” will actually replace the slipring! Thermocouple wires come out of the packing gland on the back of the rotary retort and plug into the direct mounted Rotary CALPlex. The USB communication cable on the Rotary CALPlex is allowed to rotate using a built in “mercury wetted slipring”. The USB cable then plugs directly into your computer with CALSoft installed.

Rotary CALPlex is not affected by interference typically seen when a thermocouple slipring device is used because the thermocouple signals never actually go through the slipring. Instead, thermocouple wires plug directly into the Rotary CALPlex, the signal is converted inside the CALPlex unit, and transmitted through the USB cable. Since USB is a digital signal, it will experience no degradation when passing through this special USB slipring component. This provides for PERFECT data transmission by eliminating the major cause for the “noise”… the thermocouple slipring.

Rotary CALPlex is powered from the USB connection. Therefore, no AC or battery power is required. This further eliminates potential noise issues and makes Rotary CALPlex very light. There is no need for grounding the Rotary CALPlex.
