Recent terrorist events have reinforced the need to enhance the security of the United States' food supply. The "Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002" (the Bioterrorism Act) requires all manufacturers of food products offered in the U.S. to register with the US FDA and receive a Food Facility Registration Number (FFR#). Foreign manufacturers are required to have a "US Agent" as their main contact. Many buyers are also requiring their suppliers to have a "Food Security Program" implemented in their facility.
